What are the problems with a hot tub?

Water in a spa gets contaminated in many different ways.

Due to warm water and the rich food supply, such as sweat, dander, skin creams and hair, bacteria multiply explosively. But the filters can only remove larger contaminants. The microscopic contaminants, bacteria and germs, on the other hand, are not picked up by the filters. 

To keep the water clean, disinfectants such as chlorine, bromine and active oxygen are normally used. The basic mode of action of these agents is oxidation to kill germs and bacteria. Unfortunately, oxidation also severely damages water - it "dies," so to speak. As a result, it loses its natural ability to cleanse itself.

Another problem is the formation of colonies of bacteria in the pipes, known as biofilm. Disinfectants kill individual bacteria, but the biofilm is almost immune to disinfectants. To keep the biofilm in check, disinfectant dosage rates are getting larger and larger ... 

The water behaves increasingly aggressive to the skin. At the same time, it loses more and more "stability" and eventually threatens to "tip over". Therefore, the spa water usually has to be changed every two to four months - a true vicious circle.

How does SpaBalancer work?

SpaBalancer keeps the water "stable" and "alive". SpaBalancer can distinguish between water and foreign molecules. Everything that is not water is encapsulated. The encapsulated contaminants are filtered out effectively and safely. Therefore, it is especially important to clean the filters thoroughly on a regular basis.

Not only impurities, but also substances dissolved in the water, such as calcium, iron, copper and manganese are detected by SpaBalancer. Due to the active formula, the molecular structure of these substances is partially changed in order to be subsequently encapsulated and also filtered out or separated.

The water takes on a quality similar to that of spring water. It is crystal clear and odorless.

How is SpaBalancer applied?

Shake the bottle of SpaBalancer thoroughly before use! 

The dosage of SpaBalancer is very easy. When refilling your spa, add SpaBalancer according to the table. When SpaBalancer is added for the first time, the water will become milky. This indicates that SpaBalancer is starting to work.

After that, add the appropriate dosage of SpaBalancer to the spa water every week according to the table (depending on the water content of the spa).

Questions and answers:

How often do I have to change the water in the whirlpool?

It is no longer necessary to drain valuable heated water and refill the spa every three to four months. You can save this cost and work in the future.

We recommend an annual water change. This period may be shortened if the spa is used particularly heavily.

I refilled the spa fresh and added SpaBalancer. The water has turned a milky color. What is this?

This reaction is normal. SpaBalancer starts working and encapsulates contaminants in the water. This causes this discoloration. It is especially common and intense in spas that have been in operation for a while. Biofilm has formed in the pipes there. SpaBalancer dissolves this biofilm. 

Please clean the filters the next day and extend the filter runtime. 

Normally the turbidity will have disappeared by the next day. In some particularly severe cases, the water may be cloudy for up to three days.

Do I need an ozonator for SpaBalancer to work?

Although SpaBalancer would work without an ozonator, we always recommend the use of an ozonator because this technique is highly proven to kill organisms very safely and efficiently.

Do I need to adjust the pH when I use SpaBalancer?

SpaBalancer will lower the pH slightly. However, it will work at any pH level. You can correct the natural pH fluctuations of the water with the appropriate agents. Normally, the pH will level off on its own after a period of time.

I added SpaBalancer and it formed a powdery white layer. What is this?

This layer is excess calcium that has been converted and separated by SpaBalancer. If the water is very hard, this process can repeat itself. 

You can easily wipe off this layer with a cloth. Increase the filter time so that the calcium is filtered out.

I use SpaBalancer and still my water smells. What is the reason?

In 99% it is not the water that smells, but the spa rim and the insulation cover. Moisture is "trapped" between them. This moisture is not cleaned and starts to rot. This is what creates the smell. The filters may also not have been cleaned properly or they may have been in use for more than a week. This can also lead to the odor.

Periodically clean the spa rim and insulating cover with a disinfectant. In rare cases the dosage of SpaBalancer was not sufficient. Increase the dosage for a short time and make sure that the dosage and filter cleaning is done regularly.

If the water does smell, it may be due to these reasons:

1. The filters are not clean.
2. The filter run time is less than 6 hours per day.
3. Contaminants have come out of the pipes. Perform a shock treatment with SpaBalancer UltraShock.

After using SpaBalancer, the filters are dark brown. What is this and what can I do?

Filters can often turn brown when SpaBalancer is working in freshly filled water. The brownish discoloration may be from excess calcium or metals dissolved in the water such as iron, copper or manganese. 

Place the filters in cleaning solution overnight. The next day, rinse the filters thoroughly and then soak them in SpaBalancer UltraShock solution for another night. This will bleach out the filters, giving them back their white color.

I have been using SpaBalancer for about two months now. A slimy layer has formed in the water at the edge of the spa. What is this and what can I do?

This is biofilm. Biofilm can appear at any time. If you have an older spa that has been treated with other sanitizers, you have biofilm in the plumbing. Biofilm is a colony of bacteria that is resistant to disinfectants. SpaBalancer slowly but surely dissolves this colony. This allows the biofilm to enter the spa room and settle on the walls. Sometimes this also happens with new whirlpools. This is due to the residual water in the pipes which comes from the factory filling for testing purposes. This phenomenon can also occur with very heavy loads.

In this case, we recommend shocking the water with SpaBalancer UltraShock.

How to clean the filters properly

It is very important to soak the filters in a filter cleaning solution for 12 hours. The filter cleaner dissolves fats and oils from the filter. After that, the filter should be soaked again in a SpaBalancer UltraShock solution and then rinsed thoroughly. The UltraShock will oxidize the remaining contaminants and ensure that the filters do not become a breeding ground for bacteria and begin to smell. Poorly cleaned filters are often responsible for an unpleasant water odor.

Clean the filters at least every 2 weeks under normal load.

To prevent the dirt particles in the filters from contaminating the water again, the filters must be cleaned thoroughly on a regular basis.  When refilling, we recommend that you rinse the filters thoroughly with a water hose every day for the first week. There may be heavy deposits in the filters during the first two weeks after a refill.

Is it possible to smell SpaBalancer?

No. SpaBalancer is absolutely odorless. Even the water in your spa remains odorless. Gone are the days when the water, your skin and even your towels and robes smelled of chlorine.

Can I combine SpaBalancer with other cleaning products?

You cannot combine SpaBalancer with other cleaning agents. SpaBalancer will identify any other agent in the water as a foreign substance and encapsulate it. During this process, SpaBalancer also needs itself. In this respect, the use of other cleaning agents is also counterproductive.

You can also adjust the pH value with the appropriate agents.

Can I use bath oils made of pure essential oils as a fragrance additive with SpaBalancer?

If the bath oils are natural based and made without emulsifiers and preservatives, then you can use these bath oils. In case of other fragrances, SpaBalancer will treat these fragrances as "impurities" and encapsulate them.
